Story of The Missionaries of Ecuador

The End of The Spear by Steve Saint and Through Gates of Splendor by Elisabeth Elliot are stories about missionaries to the First Nations people of Ecuador.

Steve Saint was born in Quito, Ecuador and is son of Nate Saint, one of the five missionaries that was martyred by a First Nations people called the Waodani.

Elisabeth Elliot is the wife of Jim Elliot, who was one of the martyred missionaries.

On January 8th, 1956, five American missionaries to Ecuador were martyred by Waodani warriors at the banks of the Curaray river. Once the missionaries learned that the Waodani were coming, they thought that the Waodani came in peace, but that was not the case. The warriors threw their spears at the missionaries, and none of the missionary men survived. Once Elisabeth Elliot and Rachel Saint (the aunt of Steve Saint) learned that the missionaries were killed, they did not allow that to stop them from reaching the Waodani with the Gospel. Later, they went back to the tribe and made peace.

To this day, Steve Saint and many others are working with the Waodani, and many of them are Christians making an impact in their country.
